The Swinger

by Terry Kelly

There was a young man in out town
Who used to throw his love around
He was quite a swinger now you see
He knew exactly what to say
He had a new girl every day
They all believed he loved them
Till they say the light of day
Then he'd kiss their cheeks and smile and walk away
His youthful charm was not displaced
Till sixty-four he held the pace
And the chemistry was changin' now you see
Mother nature's precious gold leaves a man when he grows old
And memories of days gone by are all he's got left to hold.

Chorus
Yes now his king size bed's half empty
And the nights they go so slow
And all the young girls' hearts he broke
They mended long ago
And all he's got left to live for, is to die
It hurt to see that old man cry

I saw him on his porch today
He beckoned to me with a wave
Reachin' for the pocket of his dreams
He lit one up and took a puff
I could see he still enjoyed the stuff
So I sat right down and listened to the things he had to say
Yeah the old man really shook me up today
He said "boy what I say may puzzle you
But now can I relate to the things you do
And by all means you gotta see them through
Ah, but it's so important that you see
The truth in life's reality
Yeah remember boy you're agin'
You could someday be just like me
Yeah cause my king size bed's half empty now
And the nights they go so slow
And all the young girls' hearts I broke
Well they mended long ago
Yeah and all I got to live for boy
Is to, is to die here alone
And he told me, he said
You know, an old man needs a home
