We Will Be There

All across this country
Many hearts are called.
Men and women choose to stand
For the good of one and all
We dedicate and sacrifice our lives.
Sometimes we lose our families
When limbs and minds are lost
‘Cause families they get wounded, too,
Blow up and pay the cost.
Through fire flood and storm
When someone’s lost
We’re there for you and strangers, too,
When freedom is the cause.

Chorus:

We will be there to protect you
No challenge too great or too small.
In service with honour at home and away
We’ll back down from nothing,
And we will be there,
On the land, in the sky, and the water,
In war time and peacetime, too.
Although we have families and lives of our own,
We lay it all on the line for you,
We will be there, we will be there.

Verse two:

We’re many thousand stories.
We’re dead and we’re alive.
We’ve been shattered by explosions
And frightened children’s cries.
Despite it all
We choose to carry on.
We’re marching to the future
With lessons from the past.
Those who went before us
Have made changes that must last.
We’ll carry on this mission. We will rise
Beyond their expectations,
bringing hope to children’s lives

Chorus:

We will be there to protect you
No challenge too great or too small.
In service with honour at home and away
We’ll back down from nothing,
And we will be there,
On the land, in the sky, and the water,

In war time and peacetime, too.
Although we have families and lives of our own,
We lay it all on the line for you.
We will be there, we will be there.

Bridge:

When you see red think of freedom and home,
Raise the flag, show gratitude.
For rivers of red brought us here
Let’s not take it for granted.

Chorus:

We will be there to protect you
No challenge too great or too small
In service with honour at home and away
We’ll back down from nothing at all.
We’ll be there,
On the land, in the sky, and the water,
In war time and peacetime, too.
Although we have families and lives of our own,
We lay it all on the line for you.
Yes, many have given their hearts and their
lives and they went to the wall for you.
We will go to the wall for you.
We will be there, we will be there.

“We Will Be There” was inspired by the men and women of our Armed Forces, the RCMP, all other police forces, and the scores of first responders. I’ve noticed how all of these selfless men and women step forward without any hesitation when called upon or summoned, regardless of the task at hand!

I’ve also observed how many of us often take for granted what men and women of service do day after day and how, until something terrible happens or lives are sacrificed, we forget that they too have families and lives of their own.

Although modesty and humility are typical characteristics of these protectors of ours, I chose to write this song in their voice, and that is why I entitled it, “We Will Be There”.

This is in fact, a tribute and another song of gratitude to all of the men and women of service.
