A Journey of Sharing
In January 2008 ten year old Logan MacGillivray saw pictures of the hardships the children were faced with in war-ravaged Sierra Leone, Western Africa. He saw schools with no chairs, no desks, no books, inadequate roofing that could not keep the rain away, no pencils to write with and no paper to write on. These images touched Logan and he decided he wanted to help. With assistance and guidance from cdpeace, Centre for Development and Peace Education, Logan spearheaded a project sending a 40-foot shipping container filled with building and school supplies to help rebuild seven schools and the Centre for Development and Peace in the Mayagba region of Sierra Leone.
Listen to the Children depicts the journey of a community coming together to help another community in need far away. The film is to raise awareness about the situation for children living in Sierra Leone so other may reach out and help. His project also involved requesting donations from different businesses and people of things that would be useful to children in Sierra Leone. Logan asked musician and humanitarian Terry Kelly to write and sing a song about the story, hence, “Listen to the Children” was born!
