The Sacrifice 5:04
Lyrics by Terry Kelly & John Meir
Published by Gun K Publishing – SOCAN
Christmas is coming,
Another birthday gone.
Your mom and dad stopped by today
But didn’t stay that long.
My heart is frozen,
And winter’s just begun.
This cold will only turn to warm
When you finally come home.
Everything is spinning
No end in sight, no control.
Why so hell-bent on winning
When the sacrifice is greater than the goal?
I cry in vain
And I pray for this to end
But anger just goes on and on
And on and on.
And the days take forever
When there’s nothing I can do
Save gathering a few small things
And send them off to you.
Who do they think they are
To take you away from me?
Writing orders from their leather chairs
Seems so cowardly,
Makes me often wonder
Who’s the enemy?
Everything is spinning
No end in sight, no control.
Why so hell-bent on winning
When the sacrifice is greater than the goal?
Solo
I stare through the window
As morning fills the sky,
But I can’t see a ray of hope
No matter how I try.
And the snow lies on the furrowed fields
Like words left unsaid
Or letters never written
Letters never read.
Who do they think they are
To take you away from me?
With one stroke of a golden pen
They’re writing their own history,
Makes me often wonder
Who’s the enemy?
Everything is spinning
No end in sight, no control.
Why so hell-bent on winning
When the sacrifice is greater than the goal?
Christmas is coming
