Kelly Peter Gregson Doreen, Vic Australia - Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 03:41:33 (EDT) Hello Terry, It is a wet and cold winters day here and I am practicing my guitar. I thought, I must have another listen to A Pittance of Time to try to pick up on the way you play it(it had been sent to me by a friend. A most wonderful song). Looked further on You Tube and found more of your wonderful songs. Watched the piece of your key note speech. Blind! My friend you are an inspiration. You are right about challenges and gifts. Ian Davies ENGLAND - Friday, July 09, 2010 at 02:54:18 (EDT) Terry it was a pleasure to browse your website, what a fantastic place. As a serving member of the Royal Navy the Pittance of Time song was introduced to me by Lisa and I was deeply moved, lest we forget not only the heroic men and women who sadly are no longer with us but also those less fortuante than ourselves, by keeping and passing on to future generations and the voluntary charity support you undertake - their memories will live forever. Sir i take my cap off to you and it will be a pleasure to meet you some day soon. Thank you. Ian Michael G. McKay Sault Ste. And also to Say Thanks for what you are doing for Canadian blnd People like myself. God bless! Sarah Hawke Canton, OH USA - Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 13:05:05 (EDT) Dear Mr. Kelly I think I might just be your biggest fan in the US. My Mom found your CD Power of the Dream, many years ago and got it for me for a Christmas gift. I just loved your music from the first time I heard it and made my Mom get me more. I am 17 years old and have been blind since I was 19 months old due to a head injury. I attend the Ohio State School for the Blind and am very proud that I belong to the only blind marching band in the land and that we had the privilege to march in the 2010 Pasadena Rose Bowl Parade. I just attended a week of technology camp at my school and our final project was to do a Podcast. My presentation was about you and it included the song, "Power of the Dream". Every one loved it. I hope someday that I will be able to meet you, but in the meantime I follow you through your website and listen to your music daily. Sincerely, Sarah Hawke, Canton, Ohio Karen Lee Hill San Antonio, TX USA - Wednesday, June 02, 2010 at 11:47:24 (EDT) About half an hour ago, I received an email with "A Pittance of Time" included as an attachment from one of my late husband's helicopter flight school buddies. I viewed it with incredible awe and immediately forwarded the email to a large number of friends, both military and civilian. I know that some people are not able to open attachments, but knew that HAD TO SEE "A Pittance in Time" and to try googling the title. I added that I was about to do that very thing as I wanted to know who that wonderful "Irish" singer was! Was I ever surprised and delighted to find that you are Canadian and from Nova Scotia as well! My husband and I attended Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA, graduating in 1960. I worked for various Departments of the Government during the summers off from college and then full time after graduating. We were bombarded with televsion and printed news coverage of the deplorable treatment our soldiers experience upon their return from Vietnam. I've only read a few of the entries in your guest book so far, but I, too, can attest to that same treatment continuing in California. Likewise, here in Texas, I as well as many others, are very vocal about thanking our Troops for their sacrifices so that we can enjoy our freedoms. FREEDOM IS NOT FREE! God bless you for your gift to the world! I was so touched by your personal story and admire you, not only for your singing talent, wordsmithing, and spirit, but also for your dedication to volunteerism! I am now going to the web site to make a contribution to support your Cancer Ride and then calling the number listed below to purchase your cd's and hopefully there is a dvd!!! Keep up your excellent work! I'm hoping that maybe I'll be fortunate enough to find you performing close to Vergas, MN - in Fargo, ND, or around the Minneapolis area!!! Pamela Bell Elmendorf AFB, AK USA - Tuesday, June 01, 2010 at 18:28:07 (EDT) WOW! I watched a program on 360 North.org TV today and heard this song for the first time. I've rewound the DVR 4xs now and I cry just as hard each time. I was a teen at the tail end of the Viet Nam war. I heard how some people treated returning troops and was horrified at the young age of 14. I've worked with Nam vets with the USO and I never walk away without thanking them. WE WILL NOT TREAT OUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS this way again, I've heard. Sadly, I've talked to young sailors stationed in San Diego who don't wear their uniforms off base because of the way civilians treat them. Troops who are native Californians say they won't travel in their own state in uniform because of the way their own neighbors treat them. I've heard of a young soldier walking through Chicago airport and was spat upon, because he was in uniform. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!! This is happening RIGHT NOW!!! Not in 1969 or 1973 but in 2009, 2010. At the age of 53, I'm just as horrified as I was as a teen. These ! are YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS!!! THESE ARE OUR FAMILY!!!! By the way, we don't treat our troops this way in Texas!!! Come through the DFW airport and see how to honor our beloved troops! Terry, I'm going to pass your webpage to everyone I know. They will pass it on and we will help spread the word of your touching tribute! GOD BLESS YOU, GOD BLESS CANADA, GOD BLESS AMERICA!!! George Vermillion Arnold , MD USA - Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 17:48:20 (EDT) I am a retired US Navy Officer and had a “Pittance of Time” event happen to me last Veterans’ Day. As a defense contractor, we are all allowed a “floating” day of leave for Veteran’s Day but the office remains open and there is an expectation for everyone to come to work that day. Veterans’ Day is considered only a minor holiday. I am sad to say most of us gave it no thought. This past year on November 11th, my meeting was scheduled for 11:00 and at about 10:50 as I prepared my reports, I realized that in a few minutes it would be the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” and the significance that holds. I went to the meeting and started to announce the fact when a young engineer interupted saying “Come on, we need to get this meeting over.” He didn’t realize what I was about to say and I wasn’t able to make him understand, but I had a sick feeling for the rest of the day. I knew I should be honoring my comrades rather than working as on a regular day. I live in the Washington DC Area and commute past Arlington twice a day but I rarely stop there. The following Saturday, my band was playing for an Elks Club Veterans' Day observance and the speaker played the video of “A Pittance of Time.” And it really hit me hard. Since I work with a lot of veterans including retired military, I told my story to them and many have had similar experiences. We are all taking a new look at how we spend Memorial Day and Veterans Day and for that matter every day. Thank you for your inspiration. George Vermillion Louise Brooking-McDow Grand Lake, NS Canada - Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 10:46:49 (EDT) Terry Kelly, Oh How I cried. I was in Holland to the 65th Liberation and at the Museum at Grosebeck I think.. the days and town are starting to overlap. In one of the rooms where a large sign that displased the indenpence and freedom is your video and your song a Pitence of Time.. Oh How I cried. Your words and your song has touched so many and I am so proud to have met you and say that I am canadaian along with you. God Bless you. Maggie Forster Cambridge, England - Monday, May 03, 2010 at 05:31:29 (EDT) What a wonderful song. Every time I watch the video it makes my spine tingle. A true tribute to all the young men and women who l ost their lives for our freedom. Thank you Terry steven perth, w.a. australia - Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 23:21:39 (EDT) Vic Craft Kapolei, HI USA - Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 20:14:10 (EDT) Well Stated. Freedom is a universal cause. All people are created equal. If we believe in freedom then we defend it wherever this may be. "when some are not free, then all are not free" Vic Craft Kapolei, HI USA - Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 20:14:10 (EDT) World War Two veterans have been hailed as the “Greatest Generation”. As a son of one of the “Greatest Generation” I served in Viet Nam with the idea that while I may not have understood the larger rationale, I was still serving a cause. It was expected of me. We did not go there with the idea of conquest. We were confronting a foe on foreign soil. Soil that we did not want as our own. There was no matter of right or wrong. In combat, the larger issue is defending your buddy. Viet Nam veterans have become the “Forgotten Generation”. Ignored by a public that would rather not remember the protests and the rioting. And forget those that amid the controversy went anyway. Over 50,000 of our number did not return alive. I had the opportunity to go to Canada to escape the draft and the possibility of going to an “unpopular” war. I don’t know how being shot at could be popular. I went to Viet Nam and returned to being spat upon, rocks thrown at me, and my car vandalized. It is ironic that a Canadian has written and performed a song that so eloquently states the case even for those of us who are forgotten. Thank you Terry Kelly. Perhaps someday, the United States will recognize its lack of responsibility to its own who fought not just an enemy on the battlefield but a hostile public when they returned. At this point in my life, I don’t think there is an apology big enough to cover the loss of respect. Karen Ward Long Sault, ont Canada - Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 19:59:50 (EDT) Terry, You were at my son's school today in Ingleside and he couldn't wait to come home and tell me of your experience at the drug store. He took me to your web site and I heard and watched your video " A Pittance Of Time." Thank you so much. I was raised as an army brat. My father and grandfather both served, 1 in WW1 AND 1 in WW11.I grew up having that respect for the veterans and service personell that so many people seem not to understand. Your song brought tears to my eyes and a feeling to my heart that is hard to explain. Thank you again for taking the time to remember our service personell. So apt....I concur that "time" is something that we are all too quick to say we don't have, but if we all too the time to sit and listen, let alone talk to someone, the world just might be a better place. Kingstown, RI USA - Friday, January 08, 2010 at 10:53:28 (EST) Terry; A friend emailed me A Pittnce OF Time. It blew me away. I keep it on my list of favorites and play it first thing each morning. I've not heard the liki of it. I am a non-combat vet of the US 1st Cavalry Dividision and my son is retired Air Force, a vet of vet of four ours of the Middle East. We have much respect for Veterans and your song hit us where we live, deep down. Thank you for it. I will keep on playing it daily to keep my mind focused. Have a happy life and pray for peace all over. Yours very truly Harley Atwood and son Patrick Russell Ross USMC VietNam Vet Ennis, TX USA - Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 13:50:50 (EST) I see that most commenters, though they couldn't put it into words, got the idea of the song. I spent 20 yrs in the USMC, from 1968-1988, and a few months recalled for "Desert Storm." When I came back from VietNam, I was spit on and jeered. When the boys came back from Iraq, in 1991, the country put on parades, welcoming them back. A bit of conscience there? But no closure for me, or my generation of Vets. Now it's Iraqi Freedom. The vets come home and are supported, as I was not. In days gone by, Veteran's Day was a National Holiday, I remember as a kid, going to big parades, picnics. A real day of rememberance. Today, everyone gets off work for Martin Luther King's birthday, but not Veteran's Day. Why? I'll tell you and all whom read this tome. We have forgot as a Nation. And don't care. Your song, "A Pittance of Time", brought tears to my eyes. At least someone out there, understands. It's not the music, nor the words, it's the spirit of the song, the meaning. I can rest my anger now, to know that there is 1 person in the world who understands. And the people whom have made commentary here, they know...understand....the spirit. Maybe in time, Veteran's Day and Rememberance Day will remember me. As an Army Veteran, I always observe Remembrance Day, and am always disappointed by those who think their paltry wants are more important than 2 mere minutes of silence. Meri Jo Hall Marysville, PA USA - Friday, November 13, 2009 at 15:45:04 (EST) Mr. Kelly: Thank you, so very much, as words just don't do justice to your song A Pittance of Time. You so eloquently reminded so many of us exactly what us Human Beings have forgotten. The WWII generation was and will always be the best generation that God created because of their selflessness and bravery during war time and peace time. Your song brought me to tears as my father, a U.S. Marine, was in the World to end all Wars, WWII, and died in 1995 without the military honors he so richly deserved for serving his nation due to lack of people to give him that honor. I have three older brothers who are retired Air Force Veterans during Vietnam, as well as a brother who is a retired police officer here in the U.S. My husband served in the U.S. Army during peacetime, and your song also moved him to tears. Thank you. Those words do not seem sufficient to me, but they are the best I can do. You truly are a wonderful song writer and singer. Please continue to have a wo! nderful career, and may God bless you on a daily basis in honor of those very veterans who you remember. armstrong calgary, AB canada - Friday, November 13, 2009 at 14:53:12 (EST) That song was a "conscience check" and a reminder why we have two minutes of silence. Both my grandfather's fought in both world wars for Canada, and my namesake grandfather was shot in the first world war. He survived and re-enlisted to fight again. The courage of the young men and women from those days to the present days is something to be thankful for. The video for it is scary for it is so real how we can be so ignorant in this day and age, an never stop and be grateful for everything that those heroes did for our country. I think this song should be played more than it has been, and it really should be a staple in remembrance day ceremonies nationwide..it is great:) kate steidl Edmonton, AB CANADA - Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 20:30:01 (EST) Thank you so much for making the song "Pittance of Time". I have no idea what happened in the incident that inspired the song, but it is wonderful that in the video the dad "gets it". This song is so well-written on so many levels: acknowledging the sacrifice at home as well as overseas and bringing the message forward to our peacekeepers of today. A brilliant composition that went beyond the lump in the throat and straight to the tear in the eye. Thanks so much for it. I have posted the video on just about everyone's Facebook page today. The song has a very special meaning to me as my grandfather fought at Vimy Ridge and had both of his legs partially blown off, and my father flew Lancaster bombers out of Gibraltar. I also personally am donating a copy to our municipal library as the price which includes public performance rights (PPR) makes it a very affordable way in which to honour both Terry and the men and women who pay the ultimate sacrifice with their lives or in the time they spend away from their families. May we all take time out to stop and remember just how good we have it in Canada, and never forget the price that was paid for those privileges and freedoms. cheryl winnipeg, man canada - Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 02:45:03 (EST) Terry I wanted to say thank you for this beautiful song which shows the true courage of all the men and women who went to war to try to save our country. My Dad was in ww2 he was a gunner, he never spoke about any of his experiences there, I wish he were alive today so I could tell him how proud I am of him. He had a hard life and must have had many good and bad experiences from the war. I am so grateful to you for writing this song and making this video so the world may know the experiences/realities that men and women/families all experienced during that time. I want our children to also understand life is precious and sometimes hardships arise but everyone must do what we can to contribute to help make our world a peaceful place to live in. To see Terry, who has had life deal him some very harsh cards and the energy, attitude and gusto with which he embraces his life, the positive energy he radiates, makes me realize even more how blessed I have been. Having the support of his family and siblings gives perspective to the importance of true caring and family interaction in this age of individual greedy consumerism. May you Terry , Tony and your families continue to be blessed with the important treasures and riches in this life you possess, that money, power, position or status have never, can never, or will ever be able to buy. Our son (Fiddle Kid on You Tube) is a Fiddle player and just loves this song ever since he saw it at school. I'm not surprised to hear where your from...it's a piece of heaven the Canadian east coast. Special people live in this special part of the world! We loved PEI when we lived there and Dartmouth is very familiar to us! Our son keeps saying he would love to meet you! I'm sure you know and have been told, heros are found everywhere. Thank you for being a hero in my sons eyes. You are helping to teach the true important things in this world! RESPECT, HONOR, COMPASSION and being grateful! Thank you Terry Kelly! Our kids (pre-teens) know the song word for word and more importantly they understand the meaning of it and respect what it stands for. Wouldn't it be a perfect world if this song could be sent around the world and be heard by all and everyone got the message? What a shame it is not a perfect world, having said that Terry you have made a start so I guess its baby steps for now. GOD BLESS you all, THANK YOU and STAY SAFE... alan logan trenton, ns canada - Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 20:33:08 (EDT) hi buddy i saw you in trenton at one time after i find out my eyes where bad. i think you are good i hope to see you one more time soon Mike O' Stanely Bridge, PE Canada - Monday, March 23, 2009 at 20:35:43 (EDT) Terry - You're a true CDN Hero who knows how to tell it like it is. Steve Warrnambool, Vic Australia - Sunday, March 01, 2009 at 06:30:48 (EST) Like many previous, I received the "Pittance of Time" via email. As a Copper of 31 years and having been at many Dawn serices for Anzac Day and Remembrance Day this song just sums it all up for me. Having been in a situation where I had to remove an ignorant idiot on such a day and also having to restrain myself and also protect the idiot from others, this song definetly struck the right cord for me. Just sensational Terry and also having a Canada connection in our family in Calgary and through WWII, what can I say - Beautiful song Craig Haggerty Nanango, QLD Australia - Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 05:14:50 (EST) Dear Terry, Like so many others...I received this via email..."Pittence of time" still makes me cry with a heart felt passion from deep down. Twenty five years I served in the Royal Australian Navy and still serve in the Reserves. Served in the Gulf 1991 and in East Timor 1999. What can I say....BRILLIANT... I have lost two good mates over the years through their service and remember them always....Grandfathers and Uncles from WW2 and their service and committment to Australia. I love your work and will always keep a keen ear out for more. All my best Craig Sandy Mellish Truro, Nova Scotia Canada - Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 12:33:43 (EST) Dear Terry Kelly, As the mother of one of Canada's fallen soldiers I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your gifts of time talent. Your song Pittance of Time was a message long over due. As a country we were becoming far too complacent with regard to our serving military personnel and our venterans. My son WO Frank Robert Mellish was number 30 of the fallen in Afghanistan and sadly we are now at 108. I never thought for one moment that this would be taking place in our country during peace time. My life has changed forever. I have lost my only son - my beautiful boy. Your song has however, brought food for thought for the young people of Canada as it has for the rest of us. Its' timely release was almost God inspired I feel. When we remember on November 11th each year your voice too echoes across this great nation as we bow our heads to give thanks for the sacrifice of lives given so selflessly so others may live better lives. We will also give thanks for your gifts and the selfless manner in which you share them with the world. Finally, I want to say that I was present at the young Kevin Megeney funeral in Stellarton where you performed your song and I so wanted to thank you but I was so overwhelmed by my own grief and it was such an emotional time for everyone that I could scarcely find the courage to meet this brave soldiers family. From the bottom of my broken heart, thank you Terry Kelly. I will always remember you! Sandy Mellish Mother of a Canadian Hero WO Frank Robert Mellish KIA September 03 2006 CAPT James W. Mehrmann, USN (Ret) Houston, TX USA - Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 13:21:44 (EST) A friend, whose son is currently serving in Iraq, e-mailed me your video link. The song summarizes well what both our countries owe to the veterans, and those currently serving, who so unselfishly place their lives in harm's way so we may walk in freedom and peace. I had the privilege to fly with the CAF 412 Sqdrn. on an exchange tour, and to later serve with a number of CAF personnel at NATO and who still remain my friends today. Thank you for your song and honor to remember those to whom owe so much to. Blessings and God's continued favor over you. MSG Terry L. Montang Baumholder , Germany - Thursday, February 05, 2009 at 07:59:29 (EST) Dear Sir, To start with I am sorry for my spelling as I do not spell well at all. I have heard and seen you video "A Pittance of Time" and I wanted to thank you for it. I have played it many time over the past two or three years and when I do, it always reminds me of WHY I am still a soldier today. I wish with all my heart that I was better with words so that I could tell how the song has touched me and how much you have given this old soldier. I will leave you with this. "Thank you" as you have helped this old soldier keep on keeping on...... MSG Terry L. Montang Davyn Simpson brisbane , QLD Australia - Monday, February 02, 2009 at 07:20:54 (EST) Terry. there may have been times when you thought "who would listen to this". Stephen Berkebile Wichita, Ks USA - Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 12:06:35 (EST) What a blessing, what a commemeration of all those who have given of themselves, some their all, in defence of freedom. Particularly today as we see the dark cloud of hate decending on the earth again, we need to be thankful. Thank you for your fine work. I am now serving in Afghanistan working in a Multi National HQ and have showed this video to all my co-workers and the response is overwhelming. I wish I had packed the CD to come over with, but will pack it up for when I come back from tour. I would love to book you for over here, but will have to wait until I get home and hopefully link up with you around the Maritimes. Take Care, and thanks for the support through the years. Robin Noye Woodcroft, SA Australia - Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 02:44:04 (EST) G'day Terry Firstly I want to congratulate you on your song A Pittance of Time. A close friend sent me a copy just after Rememberance Day. Although I am not a veteran, I am an associate member of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club - South Australian Chapter. Each February we conduct a memorial motorcyle run and visit the graves of the brothers who have past. As the club unofficial photographer I took a swag of photograps of the 2008 run. Although without your permission (sorry) I put your song to a slide show these photographs. I presented this to the vets at a recent meeting. I must tell you there was more than one vet with a tear in his eyes. I am the grandson of a WW1 veteran of the Somme, the son of a WW2 veteran and the Uncle of nephews who seen service in the Middle East and Timor. So once again I thank you for showing the respect all our veterans from all conflicts deserve.
